Born and raised in Colombia and now based in Australia, Oscar is a world- class singer, songwriter and producer.

Nominated for an ARIA with his Afro-colombian rock and roots outfit Watussi ( he has been best known as the band’s charismatic and explosive leader. His stage presence has captivated the soul of many audiences and has led the band on tours and Festivals in New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and South America. Overtime Oscar has become a visionary of the Latin-roots scene since arriving to Australia more than 10 years ago.

In 2013 he was announced winner for the International Songwriting competition (ISC) in the latin category with his composition “Isabela”.

Oscar’s solo career began with original songs that were inspired by memories of his family and cultural traditions. This first collection encompasses a mixture of South American rhythmic roots with a unique sound by combining instruments such as Peruvian cajon, Mexican harp, bluesy slide guitars and even Didgeridoo as in one of his latest tracks “Alondra”.

  OJ3His musical journey has been full of cross-cultural adventures; experiences with indigenous communities in Australia, Colombia and Peru were very inspiring. Moreover in 2013 he was invited as one of the mentors for the Bush Band Bash in Alice Springs – a program that gathers professionals of the music industry in order to train aboriginal artist in improving their performance and musical skills. All these experiences have influenced Oscar in his latest compositions. Songs like “Naturaleza” are dedicated to the aboriginal wisdom about man’s connection with the land.

The artist is also passionate about the intersection that exists between music and people. In his latest visits to South America Oscar has been involved with organizations such as Yachaywawa in doing social work and benefit concerts for children and communities with educational needs. These concerts have also been magnificent artistic encounters with the collaboration of well-known artist from the local and international scene such as Cotito Medrano (Novalima – Peru), Dante “Choclito” Oliveros (La Sarita – Peru) and Alejandro Montaña (La Mojarra electrica – Colombia).

Oscar has shared stages and open concerts for international artists such as Manu Chao, Santana, Seun Kuti, Juan Luis Guerra, and more. This year, Watussi has been invited to play once again at the renowned Byron Blues & Roots Festival 2014.
